Shincheonji Volunteer Group Conducts Traffic Safety and Wildfire Prevention Campaign in Time for Chuseok

On the day before the Chuseok holiday, October 2, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Incheon Branch (Director: Lee Seok-gu, hereafter referred to as the Incheon Branch) conducted a traffic safety and wildfire prevention campaign targeting holiday travelers at Bupyeong Culture Street.

According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the number of traffic accidents on the day before the Chuseok holiday over the past five years averaged 779 cases, about 1.4 times higher than usual. In addition, the Korea Forest Service announced that it would strengthen wildfire prevention measures during the holiday period through October 9.

In response, the Incheon Branch held an OX quiz event to promote safe and enjoyable holidays, educating citizens on traffic accident prevention rules and fire safety precautions through the campaign.

Lee Hyuk-jun (35, male, from Gyeyang-gu, Incheon), who participated in the event, said,

“During last Lunar New Year’s holiday, I witnessed three traffic accidents while traveling to Jeolla Province. I think they were caused by failure to keep a safe distance and by using mobile phones while driving. I realized that negligence can easily lead to accidents.”

Kim Soon-hwa (82, female, from Bupyeong-gu, Incheon) added,

“I already knew about traffic and fire prevention rules, but hearing the specific figures gave me a stronger sense of awareness. Holding this campaign right before the holiday makes it even more memorable.”

A representative from the Incheon Branch stated,

“About 70 citizens participated in this campaign. As traffic and wildfire accidents tend to increase during holidays, we planned this event to help ensure a safe and pleasant holiday for everyone.”

The representative added,

“Most citizens were already familiar with the prevention guidelines, but what matters is putting that knowledge into practice. We will continue to plan various campaigns that encourage people to take action, not just to know.”
