Shincheonji Volunteer Group Launches Chuseok Fire Prevention Campaign at Paldal Market

Shincheonji Volunteer Group Daegu Branch Promotes Fire Prevention Ahead of Chuseok

The Daegu Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group conducted a “Chuseok Holiday Fire Prevention Campaign” on October 1 in front of Paldal Market, engaging local residents in practical fire safety education and awareness activities.

The campaign aimed to promote fire prevention practices among cemetery visitors and traditional marketgoers, raising awareness of wildfire risks and encouraging a stronger community safety culture.

At the event, volunteers operated interactive booths featuring a “Find the Cause of Fire” quiz and a hands-on fire extinguisher training session. Through these activities, citizens identified common fire hazards in daily life and practiced using fire extinguishers properly by discharging the powder themselves.

The Daegu Branch also shared key household safety guidelines for the holiday season, such as avoiding overloaded power strips, unplugging unused appliances, and ensuring proper evacuation routes in public facilities. Citizens were further reminded to refrain from burning waste near forests or bringing flammable materials when visiting gravesites.

One participant commented, “I hadn’t thought much about fire safety before the holidays, but this campaign was really helpful. Fires can spread quickly in markets or mountains, so I’ll make sure to check for hazards at home and in my shop in advance.”

After the main event, volunteers divided into teams and visited more than 150 nearby shops to distribute fire safety leaflets. They also encouraged store owners to inspect electrical systems, remove combustible materials, and familiarize themselves with evacuation routes. One shopkeeper shared, “I’m grateful that the volunteers visited again this year to check on our safety.”

Daegu Branch Director Kim Su-jin stated, “Even a small act of carelessness can lead to a major fire. Prevention is always the best defense. We will continue to work with the local community to promote fire safety and build a stronger culture of prevention.”
