Shincheonji Volunteer Group Daegu-Gyeongbuk Branch Spreads Warmth Through Gyeongju Cleanup Ahead of APEC Summit
The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group (Chairs Kim Soo-jin and Shin Ja-bong) took part in the second “APEC Citizen Volunteer Guest Welfare Day” on October 22, joining hands to clean up the area around Hwangseong Park in Gyeongju.
The event was held as part of a community campaign organized by the Gyeongju City Volunteer Center, just a week before the upcoming APEC Summit.
Despite the chilly weather and light rain, volunteers from the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Branch rolled up their sleeves to pick up litter inside and outside the park, helping to make the city cleaner and more beautiful for both residents and guests.
About 50 volunteers gathered early in the morning at the Gyeongju Indoor Gymnasium before heading toward the northern side of Hwangseong Park.
Divided into teams, they carefully collected discarded waste, plastic bottles, and cigarette butts from flowerbeds, walking trails, and roadsides — filling nearly 200 liters of trash bags by the end of the day.
One volunteer shared with a smile,
“Gyeongju will soon welcome people from all around the world, and we wanted them to see a city that’s as warm and welcoming as its people.
We hope every visitor takes home good memories of this beautiful place.”
An official from the Gyeongju City Volunteer Center expressed gratitude, saying,
“Even in the bad weather, these volunteers showed true community spirit.
Thanks to their effort, Gyeongju will greet its guests with a cleaner and brighter face. We’ll continue working together to keep our city safe and pleasant.”
Kim Soo-jin, president of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Federation of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group, added,
“It was truly meaningful to take part in this cleanup ahead of such an important international event.
We sincerely welcome every visitor to Gyeongju and will continue to serve our neighbors with a joyful heart.
